Snapshot 20 No.200-209
209. Yokosuka thermal powerstation

This is today's Yokosuka powerstation seen from Katuyama port.
All units of this station finally ceased their operation this March.
The plant is to be replaced with coal-fired units, which are now harshly criticised, in several years.

208. Katuyama port

The photo is Katuyama port just before Tateyama.
Something like an old castle is seen atop a hill beside the harbour.
Though I thought it might be a historic building, it is a mere obsevation tower purposely designed to look like a tradiotional castle despite no historic background.
I have to say this is a questionable idea and act.

207. Otu-misaki lighthouse
At the opposite side of the Rokkaku-dou, a lighthouse is seen.
The information board reads as follows.
Otsu-misaki lighthouse, rebuilt after the earthquake.
Reinforced concrete building, height 16 m, from sea surface to the light 56 m, 1 flash every 8 seconds.
Power source: changed to photovoltaic.

206. "Rokkaku-dou"
Went to Rokkaku-dou (hexagonal small hall) at Izura, on the way home after shopping fishes at Onahama port.
It was rebuilt in the following year after being washed away by the 1911 tsunami. The view from the nearby observation deck indicates it stands at the place where it can be washed away even without tsunami.

205. "Sijimi-chou" (lycaenid? butterfly)

Sijimi-chou are frequently seen these days.
The photo shows "Beni-sijimi" perched on fleabane flower.
At Yokoto Benten in Yatiyo.
If the butterfly is larger, it will attract more attention. The actual size is, as its name indicates, that of "sijimi" clam.

204. Watch out
At the usual cycling road along Inba marsh, I was pedalling thinking turtles tend to appear on the road at this time of year. There, it emerged.
As cyclists are all watchful on the road surface, there should be no collision. However the situation could well be dangerous.
It looks like the turtles have some sort of business requiring to shuttle between the marsh and its side creeks.

203. "Medaka" (killifish)

Medaka brought into indoors for their wintering.
As they are so cute, they are still indoors.

202. "Hamanasu"
"Hamanasu" were blossoming at the entrance of a shopping mall in Makuhari.
Although those seen at seaside dune tend to have nipped leaves and remind us of the harsh environment, this one in the photo is too elegant.

201. "Chinowa kuguri"

Happened to see "Chinowa kuguri" (thatch-grass ring go-through) at Makata shrine.
It had been one of the annual festive events when I was a boy. However, for more than dacades, I have had no chance to encounter this event.
I see that was an event in June.

200. Pheasant

Many pheasants are around this area.
As they scream aloud, we can easily spot them.
As an old proverb says, "the pheasant would not be shot but for its cries".
